Newcastle agree deal to sign Bazoumana Toure

It's all go at Newcastle United at the minute after the club accepted a £100m bid for Sandro Tonali.

Newcastle have reportedly accepted a £100m bid for Sandro Tonali from Tottenham Hotspur, who are also thought to have agreed terms with the Italian already, so that deal looks to be heading towards the finish line, although not done yet.

That means Newcastle must now focus on incoming deals as there's a lot of work to be done in that regard.

Earlier on Wednesday, it was reported that Newcastle were working on deals for Bazoumana Toure and Johan Manzambi.

It wasn't thought that either deal was close, but things were sounding pretty positive nonetheless, as tonight's breaking news suggests.

Newcastle agree a deal for Bazoumana Toure

On Wednesday night, The Telegraph's Luke Edwards has revealed that Newcastle have reached an agreement with Hoffenheim for Toure, which was soon after corroborated by Sky Sports Germany's Florian Plettenberg, who added that the deal is worth €50m (£42.8m) plus a sell-on clause.

David Ornstein has also confirmed that a deal has been struck for the winger, who has now been given permission to travel to Tyneside for a medical this week.

The Ivory Coast winger would be seen as a direct replacement for Anthony Gordon if he were to join Newcastle, but as Luke Edwards warned, it's not done until it's done. Although Plettenberg seems pretty confident.

"EXCLUSIVE | Bazoumana Touré to Newcastle - DONE DEAL Surprising move out of nowhere. Agreement reached with TSG Hoffenheim. #NUFC Transfer fee worth €50m + sell-on for promising 20 y/o winger. A record sale for Hoffenheim."

Let's keep up the momentum

With this quick turnaround, it feels like it was the sale of Sandro Tonali may have been what has been holding us back. If indeed it is as far advanced as Florian Plettenberg is making out.

It's likely that the club knew that a deal would be reached and that as soon as it was done, it would give them the green light to start spending.

Our feeling is that the club needs to bring in at least six first-team-ready players this summer, and that's going to take time. Not only that, but there needs to be some consideration of how they are all going to integrate.

We can't hang around and add too many players late in the summer; they need time to bed in before the season starts, or we'll end up with another season like the last one.
