Newcastle want Mane, Trafford and Palestra as Munoz talks step up - Report

The summer transfer window is officially open, and it's been a quietly promising start to proceedings at Newcastle United.

A swift £70m exit for Anthony Gordon suggested lessons may have been learned from last year's damaging and draining Alexander Isak saga, which lingered on for months like a bad smell.

We then moved quickly to land Ewen Jaouen from French side Reims, completing an £18m move for the 20-year-old goalkeeper just last week.

Our bid to sign Osasuna's Victor Munoz appears to be progressing. The noises from Spain sounded positive over the weekend, and The Mail have issued an update today on that pursuit, also confirming our interest in three others.

Mane wanted alongside Munoz?

After revealing that Newcastle plan to 'step up' talks this week to land Victor Munoz, aware of rival interest from Roma and Bayer Leverkusen, The Mail reveal that Mateus Mane is another attacker on our wanted list.

The 18-year-old was linked with a move to Tyneside back in January, and it's thought Newcastle remain keen on the Wolves star as we bid to bring exciting young talent to the club.

Wolves seem determined to keep the Portuguese Under-21 international at Molineux despite relegation, but it sounds like we could test their resolve in the coming weeks.

Back to Munoz, it's highlighted that 'progress is anticipated this week', with 50% owners Real Madrid NOT expected to push for a buy-back clause, realising any ambitious buyer would not entertain such an agreement.

Palestra and Trafford also wanted

Despite suggestions the player isn't keen on a move to St James' Park, The Mail insists that Newcastle remain interested in Atalanta's Marco Palestra.

The £45m-rated right-back may have been earmarked as a potential Tino Livramento replacement, should he push to leave. We'll face stiff competition, however, with Inter Milan, Man City and Arsenal all linked with the 21-year-old, who shone during a loan spell at Cagliari last season.

The report also confirms that Newcastle are back in the mix for James Trafford, aiming to make it third time lucky in this never-ending pursuit of the Man City stopper.

How that works for new boy Ewen Jaouen remains to be seen, although the 20-year-old will take time to develop and acclimatise as an inexperienced young goalkeeper who is yet to play in any top flight league in Europe.
