'Overestimated': More bitterness from Netherlands after Sean Steur's Newcastle move
It's amazing how quickly people can change their minds about a person when things are going against them.
We've already seen some fans turning on Bruno Guimarães since he showed a desire to leave the club. Suddenly, all of the history is forgotten about. How he's pulled this club from relegation certainties to cup winners. That all counts for nothing now in some people's eyes.
It's not just our fanbase that's prone to these heel turns, either. The Dutch media is showing it on a daily basis right now after Newcastle United swooped to take 18-year-old Sean Steur off Ajax's hands last week.
The highly-rated youngster was tipped for greatness in Holland right up until he signed for Newcastle, and then suddenly he wasn't good enough.
Another Dutch meltdown over Sean Steur
We covered one journalist's meltdown last week, but there has since been another one. Johan Derksen, via Voetbal Zone has gone on a rant about how Sean Steur's dad has 'overestimated' him, and he's not ready for the Premier League.
“Steur’s father has completely overestimated his son.
“I don’t think that lad is physically up to the task of playing in England’s top flight. He’s not ready for that yet. But if they can make money, they’re so greedy they’ll throw that lad to the lions. Well, I reckon he’ll be turned upside down in England!
“He has a lot of qualities, but he really is a player who should have stayed at Ajax for another two years. Then he would have gained some status and might even have played for the Dutch national team.”
Steur has nothing to prove to us
There seems to be no consideration in the Netherlands of the fact that Steur will not be a regular starter for Newcastle, as they are very aware that he needs to adapt to the English game, and that means working on his strength.
They're going on as if the move has absolutely crippled his career.
Well, we've only seen one compilation of the lad in his first training session at Newcastle, but he looks pretty ready to us. If he can pack on the muscle like Lewis Miley did, then we've got no doubts that he has what it takes to succeed here.
Still, we live for the bitterness. Keep it coming. Your tears sustain us.
