Victor Munoz could join Newcastle 'very soon' - despite giant Real Madrid clause
It's been a busy week on the transfer front at Newcastle United, with early deals on the agenda after last year's slow start to the summer.
France Under-21 international Ewen Jaouen became signing No.1 on Wednesday, sealing an £18m move from Ligue 2 Reims, and it sounds like Newcastle have wasted no time in pursuing other deals.
As we reported, Fabrizio Romano shared news of our 'official bid' for Osasuna left-winger Victor Munoz earlier this afternoon, claiming negotiations are continuing between all parties.
Further updates have landed and it sounds like this one may progress quickly, despite the player being in the USA with Spain ahead of the World Cup.
Newcastle confident of quick deal
In a follow up post from Fabrizio Romano, it's claimed that Newcastle are confident of striking a deal for Victor Munoz 'very soon.'
He reports that Newcastle are looking to agree a move worth 'over €30m', suggesting we are keen to negotiate down from his €40m release clause.
Romano adds that Real Madrid included a whopping 50% sell-on clause when selling the 22-year-old to Osasuna last July, meaning the La Liga giants will secure a significant cut of any sale. A buy-back option is also on offer to Real Madrid, but, as of now, it appears they are unlikely to exercise that.
With this in mind, it would be a pleasant surprise if Newcastle could negotiate a deal below his €40m release clause, but it sounds like very hopeful an agreement will be reached quickly.
Downie: Munoz talks looking positive
While he hasn't offered quite the same optimism Romano expresses from Newcastle's side, Keith Downie has also offered a promising update on our pursuit of Munoz.
The Sky Sports reporter reveals that positive talks have taken place, but there is no agreement as of yet over the transfer fee.
His sources in Spain believe Osasuna value the player at £35m, while their recent managerial change is thought to have complicated matters slightly.
Nevertheless, it does feel like we are now pushing to land the Spaniard, who was revealed as a leading target last week by The Telegraph's Luke Edwards.
