WHOOP to Newcastle? - Internet theory emerges on new front-of-shirt sponsor
Newcastle United are still hunting for a new front-of-shirt sponsor for next season after the £25m deal with Sela has come to an end.
As far as anyone outside of the club knows right now, Newcastle do not have a front-of-shirt sponsor for next season, so we're seeing mock-ups of kits with no sponsor, as well as in-store knock-offs from other countries with a huge blank space on the front of the shirt.
It was revealed yesterday that Newcastle are very unlikely to get anywhere near the same level of deal as they had with Saudi Arabian events company Sela after missing out on Europe and also due to a huge shift in the market following the ban on betting companies being main sponsors.
New kits are due to launch in the next few weeks, and as things stand, it looks like they will be launching with no sponsor on the front. Or will they?
WHOOP WHOOP!
Newcastle United fan and YouTuber, 'The Noise', has been doing some digging, explaining why he believes wearable fitness tracking company, WHOOP, could be the main contender.
It has to be stressed that this is all speculation, and it's worth reading The Noise's post on X as to how he came to this conclusion so you can judge for yourself.
As pointed out by The Noise, WHOOP has already partnered with several football clubs; after all, they are a fitness tracking company, so it could just be a sporting partnership, rather than becoming a main sponsor.
That being said, WHOOP is valued at over $10bn, so they certainly have the means to become a front-of-shirt partner.
We wouldn't normally cover something like this as it's purely a fan theory, but people have done some mock-ups of the new kits sporting the WHOOP logo, and, well, we love it. (See the bottom of the article)
Pinch of salt needed?
Even 'The Noise' himself advises you to take this with a pinch of salt, but you have to appreciate the detective work.
There is every chance that Newcastle could go into the new season with no sponsor on the new kits, but we feel it's more likely that we'll get an announcement soon.
Our bigger concern is just how much money we'll be losing compared to the Sela deal. If we're seriously trying to chase this 2030 vision, we're not doing very well with it so far, are we?
